Making maps and visualizing data.
With over two decades of experience, we continue to apply our expertise with spatial data and software to create map-based systems and provide related analytical services. Our work not only leverages accessible mapping technologies such as Google Maps, it involves innovative techniques to analyze and communicate information.
- web-based thematic maps
-
To support a TRIMAP application that is used to identify target markets based on over 3,000 demographic and socio-economic variables, we introduced the concept of grid-based decision making and provided a simple interface to generate thematic maps quickly and easily. (Created using Google Maps API, TRIMAP’s vgMapper and Oracle-based data.)
- new store location analyses
-
When one of North America’s leading jewelry retailers wanted to investigate where they should open a new store in the southern United States, we assembled point-of-sale data, consumer spending data and other information including ethnicity and income to create a mathematical model that identified their best options. (Created using SPSS, MapInfo and Vertical Mapper.)
- transit network enhancements
-
When the Province of Ontario needed to visualize the possible impact associated with extending the subway system in the City of Toronto, we assembled travel time data, origin/destination information and described the net benefits of this large capital investment. (Created using MapInfo and Vertical Mapper.)
- origin destination flows
-
When one of Canada’s foremost authorities on public transit needed to illustrate the potential for public transit to accommodate travel patterns in Canada’s largest urbanized area, we assembled origin/destination data and illustrated how many people traveled from home in one area to employment destinations in others. (Created using MapInfo, Vertical Mapper and Adobe Illustrator.)
- ontrac collision system
-
To support a TRIMAP application that is used by cities and municipalities across Canada, we created an SVG-based mapping tool that supports the display and analysis of motor vehicle collisions. Not only are collisions referenced to a point, they are associated with specific intersections and road sections. As a result, the relative safety of all components of the road network can be evaluated by end users. (Created using MapInfo, TRIMAP’s vgMapper and Oracle-based data.)
- thermal mapping to identify what matters most
-
To help our client show how their newspapers could be used to cover specific target areas, we supported the creation of a web-based display tool that incorporates “thermal mapping techniques” and is delivered within a public website. (Created using MapInfo, Vertical Mapper, Adobe Illustrator, Map Publisher and Flash.)
- a new way to see and understand data
-
When we needed to create a new way to manage a proprietary dataset describing the penetration of a newsppaers across Canada, we created a web-based dashboard that displayed audited circulation data and Canada Post household data to assist in the decision making process. Spatial data was represented simultaneously as points, regions and within a standard chart. (Created using MapInfo and Tableau.)
